SUMMARY:AVB Community Band presents "Oldies But Goodies"
DESCRIPTION:40th Anniversary Season! \nFree Concert; General Admission Seating \nLobby Doors open at 6:00pm \nMore information at www.AVBCommunityBand.org \nThe evening will feature some of the AVB Community Band’s favorite selections as the band continues to celebrate its 40th anniversary season. “This may be one of the most widely diversified concerts we’ve done for quite some time\,” said director Mike Ajango. \n“‘Oldies but goodies’ can mean different things to different people\, depending on your age and your taste in music\,” Ajango explained. “All the tunes for this concert have been around at least 50 years\, some even more. And because we have many different people\, young and old\, who attend our concerts\, we’re sure to satisfy everyone’s musical longings.” \nDoors to the Ashwaubenon PAC open at 6 p.m. As always\, the concert is free to the public because of the generosity of sponsors\, which this month is Willems Landscape Service in De Pere.  Donations will be accepted following the concert. \nThe AVB Community Band opens its evening of music with the rousing and moving “American Overture\,” written in 1953 by composer Joseph Willcox Jenkins. “Homefront” features some of the most popular music of the World War II-era\, including “The White Cliffs of Dover” and “Thanks for the Memory.”  “The Washington Post” march by John Philip Sousa will be followed by “Precious Lord\, Take My Hand” with a contemporary arrangement by Robert W. Smith.  “Big Band Signatures” will feature some of the favorites of the Big Band era\, including “Woodchopper’s Ball” and “In the Mood.” \nFollowing intermission\, the AVB Community Band will perform all three movements of the “First Suite in E-Flat” by composer Gustav Holst. The piece was completed in 1909 and is now considered one of the masterworks of band literature.\nNext up is the title theme for the 1960 western\, “The Magnificent Seven” by composer Elmer Bernstein. It is considered one of the most emotive pieces ever written for an American Western film.  “Fanfare for the Common Man” by Aaron Copeland was written in 1942 for the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra soon after America’s entry into World War II and has become one of the most recognized themes in music.  The concert concludes with the rousing “Red\, White & Brass” featuring some of the most famous patriotic themes in American music. \nFormerly known as the Allouez Village Band\, the organization rebranded for its 40th anniversary season as the “All Volunteer Band” (AVB) to better reflect its membership from numerous communities in the area. \nThe AVB Community Band will close out its 2021-2022 season on Monday\, May 16\, at 7 p.m. with a concert titled “You’ve Got to Be Kidding” performed at the Ashwaubenon PAC. Doors open at 6 p.m. The May concert sponsored by Kinnard Heating & Cooling will also feature the annual “Spring Cleaning Drive” collection of household cleaning products and personal care items conducted by AmVets Post 11 prior to the concert in the lobby on behalf of local veterans in need.

SUMMARY:THE PIANO MEN starring Jim Witter
DESCRIPTION:THE PIANO MEN is a musical celebration of the 1970’s- year by year\, hit by hit- from the songbooks of Billy Joel and Elton John. \nAward winning Canadian recording artist Jim Witter and his incredible band lead an expertly crafted tour of an entire decade that begins with “Your Song” and winds us along on a musical time machine\, saluting two of the century’s most popular contemporary songwriters. \nUtilizing spectacular visuals on a giant screen behind Witter and his band\, we return to the newspaper headlines\, the automobiles\, the people\, the events\, the toys and even the TV shows that shaped a decade. Along the way\, the sounds of “My Life”\, “Candle in the Wind”\, “Rocket Man”\, “Just the Way You Are”\, and many more classic hits create an evening that’s so much fun\, you won’t want it to end. By the time you hit 1979\, you’re begging these musicians to move back to 1970 and start all over again. With Witter at the grand piano and his incredibly talented band mates\, the music is not an attempt to “recreate” or “mimic” the evening’s long list of familiar hits. Instead\, Witter unleashes his golden tenor on hit after hit to recreate fully-formed mental and emotional return visits to specific landmarks in a pop culture timeline. \nNow in it’s 16th year of touring\, “The Piano Men” has enjoyed sold-out performances\, return engagements and rave reviews in theatres across North America\, Great Britain and Dubai. So sit back\, relax\, and enjoy the trip down memory lane! \nSponsored by anonymous donors under the name Dolly’s Manure Fund: “Money\, if you pardon the expression\, is like manure; it’s not worth a thing unless it’s spread around encouraging young things to grow.” – Dolly Levi

SUMMARY:THE MADHATTERS
DESCRIPTION:The MadHatters began in 1997\, as the first a cappella on the UW campus. There are two schools of thought on the origin of the MadHatters: first\, that the founding members loved to sing\, and formed the group after choir rehearsals. The other\, that the founders needed a way to fund their libation habits\, discovered they could sing\, and began charging people for concerts. We don’t know if either is true\, but that\, as they say\, is Hatters History. \nThe musical prowess of the MadHatters has taken them to sometimes unbelievable heights. From performing at the UW Band Concert\, to singing at Miller Park\, the Governor’s Mansion\, Lambeau field\, and the White House (twice!)\, the MadHatters have performed at places that most college students can only dream of. And the Gentlemen in Red are no strangers to the recording studio. Their 9 albums have been greeted with acclaim both in the Madison community and abroad\, with their most recent album\, All On Red\, released in 2017. All of the MadHatters’ albums can be streamed and downloaded on Spotify\, iTunes and Tidal (if for some reason you use Tidal). \nThe MadHatters is typically composed of 12-16 University of Wisconsin – Madison students.
