Hypnosis and Improv Comedy Collide in ‘HYPROV’ Show Featuring Colin Mochrie

‘Whose Line Is It Anyway?’ comedian to perform alongside master hypnotist Asad Mecci at Ashwaubenon Performing Arts Center on Sept. 17, 2021

Improv comedy star Colin Mochrie and hypnotist Asad Mecci are combining talents in “HYPROV: Improv Under Hypnosis” at the Ashwaubenon Performing Arts Center (APAC) on Friday, Sept. 17 at 7:30PM as part of its Brodhagen Dental Care Touring Series.

Sponsored by Bayland Insurance, the show seamlessly blends hypnosis with unscripted comedy, resulting in a night of unpredictable humor.

To create the totally unique comedy experience, the duo brings 20 random volunteers on stage so Mecci can determine which five audience members are the best candidates for hypnosis. Those unwitting actors and actresses remain on stage with Mochrie, who leads them through a series of comedy sketches and improvisational games while under hypnosis. Members of the audience can also participate, as they are encouraged to contribute random suggestions such as plots, locations, and occupations.

Different from most hypnotist shows, the goal of HYPROV’s hypnosis is to allow participants to improvise without experiencing self-consciousness. Volunteers in previous shows have sung, danced, and performed in other unique ways with Mochrie.

Mochrie, an alumnus of Chicago’s Second City, is best known for his work on TV’s Whose Line Is It Anyway? Mecci has appeared on Entertainment Tonight, HGTV and MTV.

Tickets to HYPROV start at $39 and go on sale Friday, July 23 at 10:00AM. The full 2021-2022 APAC Performing Arts Season will be announced in the coming months. To purchase or learn more about this or other upcoming events, visit ashwaubenonpac.org  or call (920) 494-3401.
